Thompson was an English manufacturer that supplied thousands of handcuffs to America during the Civil War — one of the primary sources of restraints during one of the most significant periods in American history. Marked "16," "Thompson," and "Hard" with smooth brown patina consistent with genuine age and use.

The later thin model Phillips come-along in near mint condition — a genuinely hard example to find in this state. The original thick model carried the August 1869 patent but this later thin production variant carries no stamping. Clean, tight, and presenting beautifully.
