DELESTATIOUS HANDCUFFS CIVIL WAR  W/ORIGINAL KEY  1861

delestatious patent.png

The Delestatious handcuffs have an interesting history.  Patented in 1861 by Delestatious under the Rankin Handcuff name.  This is where it gets confusing as the original Delestatious cuffs as offered here are the same pattern in a larger size for leg irons and known as Rankin's leg irons, however, Rankin's handcuffs were a different shape than the Delestatious but retaining the same locking mechanism and key, which also works the leg irons.

These were a very solid heavy handcuff and found much use by the Navy and others during the Civil War.  Not many survive in any condition and this one is in great condition along with the original key.

  • The handcuff retains its original smooth brown patina
  • The handcuff works very well, it cannot be pulled open which is common with the few surviving Rankin and Delestatious cuffs and leg irons.
  • The handcuff comes complete with the original key
  • The handcuff is in excellent condition
